Latin American steel supply and demand increased simultaneously

According to the BNAmericas website, Latin American steel imports have risen in 2017 and exports have also increased at the same time.According to Alacero statistics, Latin American steel imports in 2017 increased 4% from 20.8 million tonnes in the previous year to 20.6 million tonnes.
Among the imported products, 70% are flat products, 27% are long products and 3% are seamless tubes.
Latin American Iron and Steel Association said that imports already account for 30% of steel consumption in the region, the steel industry in the region will have a negative impact on development, causing trade friction, affecting employment.
In 2017, Latin American steel exports were 9.8 million tonnes, up 12%. Among them, 4.9 million tons of flat steel, long products 4 million tons, 882,000 tons of seamless steel tubes.
