Crude steel output in Mexico rose 6% in 2017 over the same period of last year

    Mexican National Steel Association Canacero data show that in 2017 the Mexican crude steel production rose 6.2% to 20 million tons.Canacero said that the main reason for the increase in output is the output of semi-finished products increased by 32%. In 2017, the output of finished products rose only 0.1% over the same period last year. The association did not publish specific production data for each breed.

    Last year, Mexico's steel industry with an annual capacity of 29.5 million tons, capacity utilization was 68%, indicating that the total output will be about 2006 million tons. However, steel consumption in 2017 reached 29.7 million tons, up 4.40% over the same period last year.

    These figures are in line with the association's 20.4 million tonnes of production in November 2017 and the full-year forecast of 29.8 million tonnes of consumption.
